In other words, in a country where most big-ticket items are sold on credit, having good credit, or what’s also called, a high credit worthiness, means that you won’t have a hard time getting great financing deals anywhere, because any loans you apply for, including this type of new car loan, will be financed immediately, and probably, at the lowest APR and the best terms available in the industry.
As an additional option, when you trade in an older car, we will assess the value of that old car, and give you money for it. It generally works out for you, because you may want to let go of the old car, either because maintenance and repair work have already become expensive, or simply because you want to drive a brand new Hyundai. Well, as I said, we will have our mechanics look into the car, we will estimate a value for that car, and offer you that money as a trade-in value, which you can apply towards the purchase of a new car.

Check this out, my friends. This is about my love for airplanes, technology, machines, automobiles. Sure, I’m a literature guy, with major in English, and love poetry, reading, language, art, etc., but I also love technology. Quick story here. When I was 16 years of age, in Communist Cuba, my parents put me in a reputable military academy in the western part of Havana. Good academic instruction, but a lot of political and ideological brainwashing, oh, yes, awful thing, a ton of Socialist bullshit. In fact, I could have ended up flying MIG 29 fighter aircraft in Russia, or in Cuba. And it would have been a good thing because I love airplanes and aviation. But anyway, instead, I took the love of cars, computers, and technology, and fled to the U.S., where I ended up getting a Master’s degree in MIS (Management Information Systems), at Florida International University, right here, in Miami, where I still love cars, planes, and technology. Now, for your sole pleasure, here’s an old Chevrolet 1953, very well maintained, parked in front a the owner’s house, I suppose, on a street of Playa, Havana. Now, tell me this is not a beautiful machine. Oh, yes, and there are thousands of them in Cuba.

Communication Skills and Personal Appearance
I speak English and Spanish, at an advanced or native level. Many of my customers are originally from Spanish-speaking countries, or of Hispanic descent. The business is conducted in English, and the documentation is all done in English. However, if you feel more comfortable speaking Spanish during the introduction, presentation, the test drive, and the document signing, I can help you in Spanish, without a problem, just the same as I would my customers in English. Sometimes, there is a mom or a dad, or a grandma or grandpa, who don’t speak English quite fluently, and would prefer to speak Spanish. If that is the case, and the head of household, for the whole family, prefer to do it in Spanish, well, let me say that I’m your guy, yes, because I am a fully bilingual English-Spanish Sales Consultant.

I also speak some French, Italian, and Portuguese–not a lot, just a little, but I understand them well–because I was trained in Languages, and because I have always tried to keep up with the changes in Modern Times. Today, with the resources of the Internet, I have learned phrases, words, or syntax structures, of other languages (Arabic, Greek, Turkish, Hebrew, Russian), but mostly for a specific trip, or a movie I’ve seen, or a person I’ve met. I have to say that the world of Travel, where I worked for a few years, has influenced me the most, in continuing to learn or discover other languages. I must be honest, though: in reality, I do not speak any of those 5 languages I just mentioned, since I only learned a few words, phrases, and the like. Still, a few phrases in another language are always useful. I know, I’ve used a few of them in my visits to France, Italy, Brazil, Turkey, Egypt, and the Eastern Mediterranean.
I love talking about Cars, Airplanes, Technology, History, Art, Languages, Travel, Cities, Photography, Sports, whatever topic that may enhance my understanding of and delight in the accomplishments of the human race. I tend to stay away from public discussions about Politics, Sex, and Religion. Have you never read books or seen movies where they always advice you to stay away from those 3 “suspects”?
I will treat you with respect regardless of your cultural background, age, health conditions, physical abilities or disabilities, country of origin, sexual orientation, financial standing, credit history, employment status, or interest in life. If you conduct yourself with respect and consideration for others, I will reciprocate this business relationship with an etiquette of utmost respect and abundant consideration.
One last thing: personal appearance is very important to me. I am a well-groomed person. I am a gentleman. I am a respected and respectful person, at all time. I take a shower every day, sometimes two or three showers in the day, because Florida weather is humid, and it can get humid, sweaty, muggy, and it would feel uncomfortable. I shave, I put a little cologne, I brush my teeth, I comb my hair, and I maintain a clean and groomed appearance and lifestyle, as well as a friendly demeanor.
I do, however, have long hair, which is restrained with a pony tail. It is my God-given right to have long hair, and in the Land of the Free, Thank God Almighty, I can have long hair. There are reasons for my long hair, and I will not cut it. The reasons are personal, very personal. Don’t ask me, just respect my freedom and my rights. Thank you. If for whatever reason, you are not comfortable with a guy with long hair, just let me know, and I will arrange with my managers, so that another sales consultant to wait on you. Of course, if you came to the dealer with my business card, or on my recommendation, or were introduced to the dealer through me, I will effectively claim half of the commission of any sales derived from your purchase. This is customary in the car business. No offense to anyone, just business.
Now, if you are not offended with a simple guy, with simply put, just long hair, then, you are in good hands, because I will guide you through the process, like I said, with Respect, Honesty, and Consideration. And to you, who are giving me the benefit of the doubt (about my long hair), and a fair chance to live my freedom, here’s a little explanation as to why I have long hair.
When I lived under Communism, in Communist Cuba, it was illegal to have long hair. It was also illegal to like The Beatles, or Led Zeppelin, or Deep Purple, or have their records, or be found in possession of their records, or play their music. It was called Ideological Diversionism in favor of Yankee Imperialism, and it was a crime under their Socialist Constitution, a crime for which Fidel Castro and his henchmen would put you in jail. It was also illegal to discuss in public anything that spoke positively about the United States, their music, their movies, their cars, their cities or buildings, their garments, their long hairs, I don’t know, anything, I mean, anything, say, the voyage to outer space and the landing on the Moon. All illegal. You could talk about and applaud Yuri Gagarin and the Sputnik satellites, which honestly, was fine and fair, but you could not talk about or applaud Neil Armstrong or the Apollo project. Go figure. So you like The Beatles or like long hair? Throw him in jail. Listen, you don’t know what Socialism can do to you. What if they put you in juvenile detention because you have long hair, just because you have long hair? Do you understand now?
Well, in the U.S, I am a free citizen, and my employer respects that freedom. Well, let me say, as a matter of my freedom of speech and my freedom to have long hair, that yes, I would like to have my long hair. Thank you. Can we rest the case now?

The importance of making an appointment
A serious business person will make an appointment, write it down, and always keep his or her promises.

There is a reason why people don’t usually miss their meeting with their doctor: it’s because they made an appointment. Of course, one’s health is a major priority in our lives, but it also means that when something is really important, and you call to ask them to see you, they will open a space, reserve a time slot in the day, to make sure they devote all the attention you and/or your situation require, giving you in the process, all the respect that you deserve, as a customer of the medical establishment, and as a human being.
The same happens in the world of business. People who really mean business, usually keep their appointments, and as such, I want to make sure that you are given a fair window of time, say, a couple of hours, 2 – 3 hours, or more, if needed, to come to the dealership, sit down and chat over a cup of coffee, get acquainted with each other, find a comfortable atmosphere of mutual trust and respect, and discuss your kitchen and home appliance needs as well as your desire to acquire a brand new TEMPUR or PURPLE mattress or fine furniture for you or your family.
It is also fair to devote enough time at the dealership, both in the showroom, as well as in the lot, out there possible in the sun, so that I can introduce you to the lineup of new appliances, and discuss specifically the features and benefits of the package you choose, including the model, color, trim, and all technology they use, and of course, also have the opportunity to “feel” it right at the showroom. That’s what I call dedicated attention, and that’s what I would give you, and how I would treat you, as our appreciated customer.
So I can see you whenever you are ready. Again, it is best to make an appointment by email or by telephone, but do make an appointment beforehand. Why? Well, there is wisdom in making an appointment, so that somebody is already waiting to see you, ready, on your arrival, to pay attention to your needs, and find a perfect match that in the end leaves you completely satisfied with your appliance buying experience.
It is also because of money matters. Sales persons in the car business thrive in a very competitive environment, one in which the only compensation you receive is a sales commission. This case is exactly that, a job whose compensation is strictly tied to your sales commissions. In other words, if you sell, you take home a check. If you don’t sell, you don’t take home a check. Sounds ugly? It is. But most customers don’t see that part, because it is not necessary to show that part, but exist? It does. Oh, yes, it does exist. Remember, I said I was going to be honest and fair.
Well, one doesn’t have to reveal internal mechanisms that exist in every sales organization, but of course, since you must sell a car in order to get a check, then most sales representatives are going to be extra aggressive in an environment that is already almost saturated with super competitive people, with super egotistic behaviors, and with super complicated commissions-only compensation structures.

The Truth about sharing commissions
Sales persons, generally speaking, would receive a check if they sell an appliance package or a car. As you can imagine, most or all sales persons you see around in a dealership, want to sell you a car, and get the credit for that. Sometimes, things that are less than fair may happen to good people. Well, I consider myself a good person, but not a stupid person. So I will fight for my credit (or commission), if it is my sale, and if I worked hard to sell the appliance package or new car.
If you come in to the showroom with my business card in hand, or recommended by someone, or just asking for me, Ricardo Trelles, to see a brand new mattress, or a bed, or a living room set, but for whatever reason, you end up speaking with someone else, then that someone else will probably, in a way, “capture” your name, and “capture” or open your account. If you later ask for me, and I help you, then the commission is given completely, or in part, to that someone else who “worked” with you first. This is what happens so many times.
Well, I told you I was going to be honest. Here I go: I do not like working for someone else, for nothing, that is, work hard only to see that in the end, the other person gets the whole commission and I get nothing. If I do the hard work–and I have no problem waking up early in the morning to go to work, and work hard–I was saying, if I put the time, the long weekend hours, the effort, the dedication, the sacrifice, and the hard work, then I want to get compensated fairly, and get paid the full commission or credit for the sale. Period.
So, if someone calls me, or calls on me, to assist them, after they have already dealt with someone else, and ended up not liking the way they were treated, it is highly improbable that I will get out of my way to help a customer who chose not to call me first, and help him/her get a decent deal, when actually, all or part of the credit/commission is going to go to somebody else who didn’t do the their job well, or not with the greatest effort, dedication, patience, understanding, and personal effort, like I do with every one of my customers.
I know, the truth sometimes is a bit tough to hear, but I promised you Honesty, and that’s exactly what I have given you here and now, and will always give you, Respect, Honesty, and Consideration. And the truth is, that this is the way things are in the car business. So, now you know exactly what happens behind the curtains.
